VICTOR VELYAN – THE ANCIENT JEWELRY ART OF PATINAS AND METAL SMITHING
Thursday August 9th – 2-4pm
For over twenty years Victor Velyan has both influenced and inspired those in the jewelry industry as a master metalsmith and designer. He was the recipient of 27 awards while designing for others before realizing his dream of opening his own workshop in Los Angeles. Victor’s work boasts careful attention to detail and makes timeless pieces with an edgy twist. Inspired by the old Aragon world, Velyan’s work combines mixed metals with vibrant gemstones to make bold, vivacious statements. His pieces carry the sword symbol – the signature of Blacksmiths in Medieval Britain, from where his techniques originate. This lecture will cover the ancient jewelry art of patinas, nearly an extinct artform, and metalsmithing. His collections are considered understated sophistication, chic, edgy and impeccably well-made. They can be found at select Neiman Marcus and Saks 5th Avenue stores, along with several boutique jewelry stores around the United States.
